be likely to do,意思是很有可能做。likely的基本意思是“可能的”“适合的”。用作表语时,可接带to的动词不定式或that-clause。likely前可用very修饰。侧重于表示事情还没做,在讨论可能性。

be likely to用于谈论可能性,例如

Are parents who have a lot of money likely to spoil their children?有钱的父母会更容易溺爱孩子吗?

be likely to也常与more和less连用以对事物作比较,比如

I think men are more likely to spend a lot of money on food than women are.我认为与女性相比,男性更可能为食物花钱。

I'm probably less likely to go back there than to Prague.

比起布拉格,我倒是不太会再回到那里了。

可以用not或者unlikely构成否定形式,例如

The company is not likely to make a profit in the second half of the year.

这家公司在下半年盈利的可能性不大 。

People are unlikely to listen to him now because they know he lied.大家知道他撒了谎,所以现在不会听他说话了。

也可以使用后面跟that+分句形式的 it's likely,如

It's likely that sales will rise.
